Life on a Friday night

Heisann,

I tilfelle du ikkje he Samoans i din nære sirkel, bør du vite at Pacific Islanders lika mat.
Her e Ieru på jobb:

Hi guys,

sorry 'bout the few updates lately.. I've been so messed up with school, homework, a bookreport (Is That Really You God by Loren (Cunningham)) and a project on Hawaii.

Anyway, I was thinking I'd tell you about what happens every Friday night.

Then, Ieru To'omua, the guy we're living with (he and his wife are the leaders of Island Breeze International - a ministry of redeeming cultural expressions), goes doen to the kitchen on the base. There, a close friend of his is working, and is telling him to stop by and get food from it, as we live off-campus.

Now; in case you don't have any Samoans in your close circle of friends; there are two things you should know: They like food. Lots of it. Also, their number 1 priority is that their friends have all they need and are doing well. So; every Friday night he comes home with a HUGE box of food, and loads of bananas.

ABOVE PHOTO:

Ieru works at the local hotel a few nights a week, making a traditional meal for the Island Breeze lu'au, out of an oven called an imu.

This lu'au also contains a performance from the different islands of the Pacific, from the Hawaiian hula to the Maori (New Zealand) Hakka (war-dance). Wow- and Ieru got us 'free tickets' - meaning; he bought tickets for us as a gift.

Also, Ieru kept turning to us while he was doing the pig, posing for my dad's video camera :P He loves watching himself on video in the evenings, lol :P (he's not self.centered, but we like to make jokes about how handsome that guy in the lavalava is :D)

Anyway,
I need to go cook some eggs for myself before they get home...

Take care guys. Love ya!

Friends

Gjør det her veldig kvikt, berre legg ut noken bilde av venna her... Bildebeskrivelsane e på engelsk, sorry :)//
Doing this update very quickly, just posting some pictures of friends.

Det her e Raychell To'omua, my roommate. Ho ser vanligvis ikkje slik ut.... :P Photoshoot you see :D//This is my roommate, Raychell To'omua. She normally doesn't look like this, we were having a little photoshoot :P

From the bottom right: Leilani Eli (Manu's (in my class) older sister, Donna Jordan's granddaughter), then in a pink dress is Kesia (a girl who spent the night in my room without me even knowing it one of my first nights in Hawai'i... Hmm Raychell :D) followed by Raychell (who is the daughter of the.. eek.. old leader for Island Breeze, and sort of the gr.daughter of Donna (if you're not in YWAM, I can't really explain you this concept... Donna is like a mom to most the islanders.)
The three of them are teaching little kids hula (and will be teaching me that one sometimes tooo... eek), with the help of Raychell's aunt.

Another one of my posing friends, Laura Anne. This is a really bad photo of her tho, she would be so mad if she knew I was posting it.. :P

Anyway, she's a very talented artist. Her grandma is an extremely talented one, with a HUGE house and a swimming pool... Yay. Also, JoEllyn (some may know her??) and Larry Wright are her housekeepers, as Laura's gr.parents are in Montana most of the year.

Short update

Hei

Beklager få oppdateringer i det siste, har vært ganske optatt med forskjellig (som: skole/lekser, foto, å kære noen venner om foto (Raychell To'omua - roommaten min, Kesia.. something og Leilani Eli - Donna's granddaughter for dere som kjenner hu), lovsangsmøter/ancdre møter hver morra, fellesmøte hver torsdag, you get the picture) og i tillegg har ikke nettverket vori det helt store. :)

Kjersti

Hey gyus,

Sorry about the very unfaithful flow of pictures you're getting here. Go over to www.flickr.com/photos/Kjersti454 for more ;)
Also I'm sorry about this late reply, I've been busy doing a number o' things: school (homework), photo, teaching Raychell To'omua, my roommate, Leilani Eli and Kessia about photo/PhotoShop, awesome worship meetings every morning, corporate community ones every Thursday (one of them included some very awesome info about a D. Cunningham project that really is shocking, write me for more info (it's one of those strategic secrets-thingies)) and loads more. On top of that, the wireless on my laptop has been failing on me. :P

Had my first community outreach yesterday, on Monday we asked the Lord what we should do/where to go, and the thing we got was to go to a strip-mall not far from where I'm living and clean windows. Some of the managers were shocked at us, but still everyone but one (who was closing up) let us bless 'em. It was cool =)

Anyhow, might try to get some photos up.. We'll see, eh? (sorry, there are like.. 5 Canadians in my class.. Please excuse the 'eh's :))

Need to go do some journaling (homework), it's due on Sat at noon and I haven't started =)

Love you guys.
Kirsty

PS: Some of you have eamiled me! I haven't gotten on to the network long enough to answer more than one or two :( Haven't forgotten you!!!

Here comes the photos!

Typisk solnedgang, indeed... :) //
Typical sunset, I know. SOOC (straight out of camera, no editing), but my camera was set to Vibrant, so......... ;)

He noken kutt på føttene fra steinana her ;) //
I've busted my feet on some of the rocks here, alright......! :) Nothing bad tho.

--------------------------------

Meir bilde seinare. (Har glemt A/V OUT-ledninga mi i huset igjen..)

Love,
Kjersti.

Hey guys!

Posting some pics here as you can see.

Having an awesome time here, went snorkling with my school buddies today. Didn't see the Humuhumunukunuku apua'a (not sure about the spaces there), but that ok.
Btw, my teachers are AWESOME people! I have a feeling my expectations are gonna be met so much more than I had ever thought. We're family, you know! :)

YWAM rocks. Besides that (I trust 99% of the englishers here know that YWAM's cool!), Hawaii rocks. It's gorgeous =).

I gotta go right now though, I see people are walking past me with dinner plates, so.. See ya! :)

Btw - like I said I'm not gonna be on MSN much. Feel free to comment here - I REALLY wanna know how you guys are doin'!!

Love you!
Kirsty

I'm home!

Aloha!

Don't think we'll make it down there every morning, no :D).

Bilde kjem litt etterkvart; akkurat no sitt e her i biblioteket for å få litt stillhet, og he ikkje A/V OUT-ledninga til kameraet mitt med meg. Next time! :)

GODT NYTT ÅR ALLE SAMMEN!!

//

Aloha!

Finally, I'm here in Hawaii! The temperature is about.. 27C. Which is.. Something in Fahrenheit ;).

We arrived two days ago, after having gone a fair amount of hours in an airplane. We got to sleep in SF though, which was great!
Man, am I beginning to see how people's minds are so twisted back home! Let me tell you one thing - I have to this day never met more hostile Americans than I can count on one hand. People more friendly than what's normal back home, though, 90% are!

Anyway, back to topic =). We met Donna & Peter Jordan, and Larry & JoEllyn Wright picked us (and a family consisting of three Norwegians we met on the plane 30 mins before landing, taking IBC here. Which I think stands for Introduction to Biblical Counseling.....) up at the airport. After leaving them at the King Kam (King Kamehamea, a hotel near the sea), we went to the UofN campus to have dinner at Peter & Donna's place. After picking up our rental-car, JoEllyn showed us where we are staying (off-campus, in a local Hawaiian neighbourhood) and explained us the way to Wal-Mart, where we eventually went to get some slippers and food (the breakfast is at 6:30 AM or somehting, naturally we won't be able to get down there every morning!).

She also gave us a brief tour of the campus, so I think I know where the main features are located now. (At least the Prayer Room+Library and Computer Lab (all in one building), food line, Ohana Court, rooms/apartments etc., the GO-Center and Info-centre. The DTS office I'm not sure about, even though we were there just yesterday.. Ah well :))

We are by the way sharing a house with leaders of Island Breeze (whose names I can never remember :S) and their daughter, Rachel (we're roommates). They have a (indie-)rockin' sense of humor!! :P

So anyway, school's starting tomorrow. Today we've had a long talk with my (Norwegian, although all teaching will be in English, naturally) teachers, and sorted everything out.. The school's kinda influenced by King's Kids, so the oldest ones will be in a way looking after the younger ones some times. (I don't know how to explain it better in English - all you King's Kids people - feel free to comment and correct me!! :D)

I'll throw some pictures in eventually, I'm sitting in the Library at the moment for some silence, and don't have my A/V-OUT cable with me.. I haven't taken a lot of photos, but some. :) (I'll probably post a few of them over at flickr too.)

Anyway, I guess I better get goin', it's the day before the students arrive and so I bet there's some more staffers we should meet before they come.
(Feel free to pass the address for my blog on to anyone you think might want it.. I'm not gonna be spending a loit of time on MSN due to the time difference :))

Love,
Kirsty!

When, where and what!

Eeeey!

Vi ankommer University of the Nations-basen samtidig som studentene (altså starter kurset dagen etterpå).

See ya ;)

Klem,
Kjersti.

(NB: Hvis du vil finne på nokka før jeg drar - now's the time!! :D)

//

Hi there!

Relax, I haven't left for Kona juuust yet ;). I just got the excellent idea to write a little about my expectations and stuff before I leave (and do a comparison when my time in Kona comes to an end) - along with a bit info about how this thing is gonna work.

I'll be leaving at 10AM on January 1 (AKA New Year's Day) - which means there won't exactly be much of an opportunity to party my way into the new year. :P
We'll be taking this route: Vigra (Ålesund) - Gardermoen (Oslo) - Copenhagen - Seattle - Los Angeles where we'll be spending the night - Kona.
I'm arriving in Kona the same day as the students for the spring term, so we'll probably come in with the same plane as the All Nations - All Generations students (my parents will be staffing that DTS, which is the reason for us leaving.. In case you didn't know:-))... (Hopefully we'll be sitting at the left side of the aisle, as Peter Jordan, one of the leaders for the course, tells us there's been an early snow this year.. ;))

When safely arrived in Kona, I'll be attending UofN's Foundation School, which will be a very thrilling experiencea, since I don't have much info about it at the moment, except for what you can find over at UoFN's official site.

My expectations are... To be able to sit at the feet of so many experienced people (for instance - Loren & Darlene (Cunningham) will be there.. :D Some of you will remember I got to interview him last May??), and get to learn so much, from both other people & God.. Oh and offcourse, make tons of new friends - afterall, who ever heard of someone going to a YWAM base (even if for just one week) and not making any friends? ;)

As a last note - there's going to be InTouch gathering (for ex-YWAMers, people familiar to it.. etc) in the end of February. I know some of the people who have been involved with YWAM Associates here in Norway are planning to/praying about going to it (some have even ordered tickets) - including some of my family's best friends.
Why don't you consider it aswell??? :D We'd all love to see you there!! If you wanna know more, you can leave a comment or something, and I'll give you the info needed ;).

Lottsa love,
Kirsty.
